Nutty Bar Pie

I'm guessing that a lot of my posts on this blog will include food...
Today I'm grateful for this pie that Cody asked me to make. I laughed the whole time I was making it and kept reminding Don not to look at it because it has so much fat in it! It has 24 nutty bars in the crust and edges plus a 1/2 of a cup of butter, 2 cups of peanut butter, a pound of cream cheese, whipped cream AND sugar. Oh yum.

This isn't a picture but I'm posting it anyway.
I am grateful for the blogs I read. I love when they make me laugh. This is one that I recently came across and it is brilliant. Check out this post...Gurbonzo's Blog!

Rosarita Enchilada Sauce

My family LOVES Rosarita Enchilada Sauce. I can't find it any where anymore. Then a few weeks ago, I found a #10 can of it at Smart and Final! Whohoo! So Donnie and I made three pans of enchiladas tonight and put the left over sauce in a container to use later. Then Donnie finished off the last little bit of the sauce. I'm grateful for the sauce and for this picture!

Life Lessons

Today Jesse ran for President of the Student Council. She made a great poster, prepared an awesome speech and even got her dad to participate. Unfortunately, she lost. Not only did she not get elected, she lost to a boy who is her arch nemesis...Jonah. Jonah has won every academic contest, come in 1st place to Jesse's 2nd in every subject and done just a little bit better than her at everything since Kindergarten. Jesse even lost the race for Secretary to him last year. We were all really hoping that this would be her big moment, but, alas...she has had to learn a hard life lesson...BOY'S STINK! Oh wait, that's not it. Jesse said it in her speech... You don't always get what you want.
(BTW...Jesse did kick Jonah's hiney in the school spelling bee last year! Let's pray for a repeat this year!!!)

Pink Shoes

I found my self getting frustrated this morning because I didn't have the perfect pair of pink heels for my outfit. I really NEED a pair that are more pink, less mauve, closed toe, maybe a wedge heel. I NEED THEM!
Yeah...not so much.
I ended up wearing the perfect pair of sparkley pink sandals instead. I am grateful for the pink heels I DO have and I am moving the "perfect" pair to my WANT list.

Bottled Water

I love water. I drink it all day long. I used to love tap water. And cold water out of my fridge was the BEST! After our house flooded, I started buying bottled water to put in the wine cooler that was in the house we rented because there was no water in the fridge. Then we moved back home and I started drinking the cold fridge water again. EW! It was disgusting! I know it didn't taste bad before but now it's so gross I can't drink it. So I continue to buy bottled water. Sorry environment...and Don.

Today was Don's grandpa's 85th birthday party. Don's brother's children were all there and even though our kids are older by a few years, they all play pretty well together. Cody spent most of the day in the jolly jump playing with Kendall, Owen and Ethan. Jesse spent her time with Maddie and Abbey. I'm grateful for cousins...they are fun friends!

A Day Off

Today I didn't do any laundry, dishes, housework, errands or lesson preparations. Don, Cody and I went with some friends to San Diego to see BYU play San Diego State University. BYU won! It was fun and nice to have a day with nothing else to do!

Me Time

I am grateful for any moments I have to myself. I love being by myself. I get a lot done. Sometimes I just get a lot of thinking done but it's still getting stuff done! Tonight I had a few hours while Jesse was at Jaycie's and Don and Cody were at a football game. I cleaned out my purse, did a bunch of laundry and watched forwarding to the good parts. And I thought a lot. time.

I've had the difficult but truly amazing opportunity this week to teach the words of Isaiah to my Seminary students. Isaiah is HARD to understand and super HARD to teach. Even with study guides, online resources, a conference class and my personal study behind me, I still struggled with what and how to teach this great prophet's teachings. After a lot more personal study during the late night hours this week and A LOT of prayer, I had a beautiful experience Wednesday morning.
In the last ten minutes of class, when I was feeling discouraged by the direction of the lesson, the perfect words to convey the principles I was trying to teach came to me through inspiration. I had not prepared the words and later, I could not even remember them but while I was speaking, the kids in my class were very attentive and quiet and the Spirit was very strong.
Like Nephi, "my soul delighteth" in the words of Isaiah and in the grace, justice, power and mercy of the Lord.

For years, Cody has talked about playing football when he got to high school. He has worked hard and learned a lot since practices started during the summer. He is now second string and has played in a few games. He loves it and I love it! I'm grateful for football because it has made Cody a stronger and more determined person. Football has also given Don and I an opportunity to get together every week and just enjoy watching our son and for that I'm also grateful. Go Bulldogs!!!

I love the rain and I'm grateful that it came so early in the fall this year! I hope it rains until my birthday in March!

I love naps! I take a lot lately since I still like staying up late and I have to get up so early! So I'm grateful for the time I have to take a nap when I need to. (I took this picture myself, right before I fell asleep!)

(The person...not the spice!) This picture was taken at the Magic Castle. Cim invited me to go with her and some other friends. It was very cool! I adore Cim and I am grateful for our THIRTY-FOUR YEARS of friendship!

I love watching movies! I have collected nearly 600 DVD's and was very reluctant to switch to renting them. But it made more sense financially and I was running out of room to store more DVD's. So we signed up for Nexflix and I am grateful! It's been so nice to watch a movie and then send it back knowing it cost a fraction of what I would have spent to own it and that I don't have to number and file it!

Donnie just walked into my office and I thought, "OH! I'm grateful for HIM!" Surprising, huh? So my camera was handy and I snapped this picture of him. (Doesn't he look SKINNY?!?)

The Clongs

I adore the Long family! They have been great friends! I told Becky a few years ago that I wanted our girls to be best friends because neither one of them have sisters. Be careful what you ask for! The girls are more like sisters than friends...they laugh, fight, cook, clean, plan, giggle, talk and love each other. They call themselves the Clong sisters! I'm so grateful for good friends.

I didn't actually take today's picture but because it is Conference Sunday, I thought it would be appropriate anyway. I am grateful for the temple and I was excited to hear about the new ones that will be built soon!

Plans to build five new temples were announced Saturday morning by President Thomas S. Monson. With 130 temples currently operating and with another 16 in some phase of planning or construction, these five temples bring the worldwide total to 151 (with 14 in Utah). Monson noted that 83 percent of the faith’s 14 million members now live within 200 miles of a temple and predicted that the percentage of Latter-day Saints living near their church’s most sacred and significant edifices will continue to climb as “we construct new temples around the world.” These are the five new locations:

1. Brigham City, Utah
2. Concepcion, Chile
3. Fortaleza, Brazil
4. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
5. Sapporo, Japan

My Boys

I love my boys. I took this picture tonight after Cody and his team won their game against Pacifica High School 24-12!
